Chinese traditional new year song “Gong Xi” was written by Chen Gexin (Indian/Chinese decent): original version in 1946 celebrated the triumph in Sino-Japanese War. Later the song’s lyrics were changed to celebrate the Spring Festival (lunar new year). A famous songwriter of his time, Chen also wrote “Rose Rose I Love You,” Shanghai Latin Pop tune later covered by American pop singer Frankie Laine.
